If you're using the paint, use the knives!

Assuming you got the paint because you want to really recreate the types of texture that Justin Gaffrey showcases (because same) let me save you some time: get the knives. They're more flexible than regular painting knives which I 1. Didn't realize at first and 2. Didn't know mattered - but it makes a HUGE difference. I struggle with tremors already, but the stiffness of other blades was making it incredibly difficult to work with the paint they way I wanted because you have to be SO careful with an inflexible blade not to smush it all together and flat and ultimately, far too well mixed and lacking the character and contrast that comes from a lighter stroke.

Also they're WAY cheaper, and the handles aren't all chipped and peeling like some of my more expensive palette knives. Fortunately they don't get a ton of use anymore so it's a non-issue - but save yourself the frustration aand cash and get the good ones made to work well with the paint!!
